Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine - Nova IVI Fertility

Nova IVI Fertility offers qualified doctors a chance to pursue advanced specialty training in IVF procedures and best practices. The fellowship education is intended to increase the pool of qualified IVF doctors with focused commitment in reproductive medicine with evidence-based guidelines and programs. The program will be conducted by a multidisciplinary unit and organized by a subspecialist and trained consultant in reproductive medicine. The 1-year fixed duration Fellowship (NIF) in Reproductive Medicine is a full-time program offering training and instruction in:

    • - Medical and surgical treatment of infertility
    • - Reproductive physiology, endocrinology and genetics

NIF’s comprehensive training of these problems involves diagnosis, therapy and follow-up of the results across male and female partners

The objective of this Fellowship is to ensure professional competence along with high quality assurance established around long-term evidence-based care of patients with reproductive disorders, and

      • - Acquire knowledge in management, education and performance monitoring
      • - Co-ordinate and promote cross-professional cooperation to organize care
      • - Participate in research and development in reproductive medicine

Eligibility Criteria

The entry requirements for this course are

      1. Education: Applicants must have completed & be a qualified postgraduate in obstetrics and gynecology approved by the Medical Council of India to be eligible to join the NIF Fellowship Program. These include:
        • MD (Doctor of Medicine) awarded by MCI-recognized Institute: In Obstetrics/Gynecology
        • MS (Master of Surgery) awarded by MCI-recognized Institute: In Obstetrics/Gynecology
        • DNB (Diplomate of Medicine) or a Diploma course in Gynecology (DGO) offered by a recognized institute
        • Note: Applicants who have studied in foreign countries (outside India) and passed in clinical courses in obstetrics and gynecology are eligible to join the Fellowship Program upon producing the following Certificates.
        • Equivalency Certificate issued by the Medical Council of India, New Delhi
        • Temporary Registration Certificate issued by the Medical Council of India, New Delhi
        • Migration certificate from the university where Post Graduate degree was obtained
      2. PCPNDT Registration: Valid registration within the state and ability to apply for name to be added to PNDT (i.e., no more than one machine registered in applicant’s name)
      3. Age Limit: The maximum age limit for applying is 35 years
      4. Time & Location: Applicants are required to complete the course within 12 months and be present physically at an operational NOVA IVI Fertility center (as decided by Nova) subject to local holidays and course calendar requirements

Admission & Fees

The Admissions & Academic committee will comprise of Medical Director and Deputy Medical Director (Clinical). This committee shall set the criterion and will monitor the process of selection, training and conduct of examination. The candidates will be screened in a written test and interviewed orally prior to selection.

The One Year Fellowship Program will commence in January and July of every year. There would be a mandatory probation period of 1 (one) month during which the aptitude and approach of fellow students will be assessed. All fellow students must mandatorily pass the probation period successfully to continue the Fellowship.

The fees for the 1-year Fellowship program will be INR 400,000 (4 Lacs only) and needs to be remitted prior to beginning of the course. Any and all taxes will be levied over and beyond this amount which will be borne by the candidate.

Faculty & Curriculum

Nova IVI Fertility Academic Committee shall constitute the faculty for the fellowship program. The Curriculum listed below is subject to modifications by the Nova IVI Fertility Academic Board.

The education will be structured according to an education plan with clearly defined goals to be achieved after specified time intervals. A pre-approved education plan shall be implemented at the beginning of each placement and regularly (every 3 months) monitored and documented in a training logbook.

The following academic and scientific education is mandatory:

  • - Academic sessions
    • Two academic sessions per month: Every session of 2 hours. Lectures will be provided by the relevant faculty
    • At-least 1 case presentation and/or Paper review per week
    • All fellows will need to join any one of the existing bio statistics program
  • - Scientific Productivity
    • Every fellow will need to present one paper at a national conference listed by NIF
    • Every fellow will need to publish one article in a PUBMED indexed journal (wither individually or in collaboration with other NIF researchers)
    • Research topics will be decided mutually within 3 months of joining to give sufficient time for carrying out the study
  • - Note: If the above conditions are not met with, the fellow may (at Nova discretion) allowed to appear in the examination, but the completion certificate will be given only on completion of the above

3 - Major Procedures in reproductive medicine

Follicle stimulations/ monitoring for IVF-ICSI

Oocyte pick up (OPU)

Embryo Transfer (ET)

Testis biopsy and Epididymis aspirations

4 - Laboratory experience in reproductive medicine

Note: This is only an Observational program covering 4 observations

Exit Examination

The commencement of examination for the Fellowship Program will be on any day within the calendar month of June and December which will be communicated with 15 days’ notice.

The examination will be conducted with one internal Examiner i.e. the Course Director who is the Convener of the examination and Two External Examiner chosen by NIF. All the expenses for the Examiners will be borne by the institution. Nova IVI Fertility will have one observer on the Examination day.

Certificate & Follow on Employment

The successful candidates shall receive a Certification at the end of their training. The successful candidates may suffix his/ her name with Fellow in Reproductive Medicine (Nova IVI Fertility).

Based on availability of open positions and Nova's discretion, select fellowship students will be offered follow-on full-time employment as Associate Gynaecologist at a NIF center in India.
